  Answer

Microsoft Outlook 2003

In response to anti-spam legislation and excessive spam complaint rates, nearly all Internet Service Providers (ISP's) are implementing protective standards and measures in order to stem the tide of spam flowing into their users' email inboxes. As a legitimate email marketer, you need to adapt to these changes in order to remain successful in communicating with your customers.

How to Build an 'Email-Ready' Flyer

'Email-Ready' means your flyer was designed with email in mind.

Most people do not realize that a 'Print-Ready' flyer does not work well in the world of email.  While it might look great on a printer, emails are HTML-based.

Furthermore, emails cannot display everything an HTML website can display.  So the HTML code MUST be limited to simple tables & cells. Do no use CSS styles, javascript or other 'fancy' code...it must be kept simple to be readable in all email software (Outlook, AOL, Hotmail, Gmail, Apple Mail, etc.)

Simply saving your Word or Publisher file as an HTML file unfortunately does not work, as it is preparing the HTML file for a website, not an email.  Almost always the HTML must be created from scratch.

This, by the way, is why we limit what you can do in our online flyer templates...so you can keep your flyers e-mail friendly.

Another problem people might try is to save their Publisher or Photoshop print flyer as a large JPG picture and try to send that.  The problem is, all modern email programs (ie. Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL, Apple Mail, Hotmail, etc.) automatically block pictures and attachments.

You've probably received emails where the pictures or graphics are replaced with an 'X' that you must click on, permitting the pictures to be displayed.  And unless a person chooses to display that picture, they will never see your flyer.

However all HTML text is displayed.  If you have an 'Email-Ready' flyer (designed in HTML), most of your flyer will get through.  You may have 3 or 4 pictures & logos included...they will be 'X'd out'...but the bulk of your content will be displayed and your message gets across.  The recpient is much more likely to click and view your pictures when they see what your flyer is about.

Here are some samples demonstrating the problems mentioned above:

Before Outlook downloads pictures After Outlook downloads pictures
Sample HTML email  Sample HTML email
Sample JPG only email  Sample JPG only email

As you can see, HTML is preferred because you can get most of your information across without relying on your recipients to download your pictures.  A JPG only email shows up completely blank.
